Abdel, specially-appointed professor of Beijing Institute For Brain Disorders, Academician of Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and professor of the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, published a research report on Nature and revealed the new role of motor neurons in January 2016.
For almost a century, motor neurons have been regarded as passive receivers of the fine motor program for generation and refining of the spinal nerve cells network. The research by researchers in the Research Group confirmed that the motor neurons affected the moving loop for generating rhythmic movement through a new direct signal path, and therefore, the motor neurons should not be regarded as the passive receivers of motor commands any more, but an important part of the loop for generating motor behaviors.
