Summary:
Dr. Wei Sun, associate professor in neurosurgery,is the chief of neurosurgery of Beijing Bo Ai Hospital in ChinaRehabilitation Research Center (CRRC) and the supervisor of Capital Medical University. He is also thedeputy secretary-general of Committee of Spinal Cord Injury of China Association of Rehabilitation of Disabled People. Before coming to CRRC, he was the chief of skull base tumor department of Beijing Sanbo Brain Hospital.
His research mainly focusesonClinical studies of pituitary adenoma and brain function remodeling after brain damage. He hasdonemore than 3,000cases ofpituitaryadenomasurgery by now. He invented a positioning method in trans-sphenoidal resection of pituitary adenoma according to regional anatomy and improved operation method. He has published more than 20 articles on pituitary adenoma. In the past few years, his research mainly focused on brain function remodeling after brain damage which includes skull defects after brain injury, hydrocephalus, basic researcheson neural stem cells and spastic paralysis. At presentresearches in this field is few and not deep enough. His team has made significant progress in this field.
Three representative publications:
Research Interests:
1.    Clinical researches onwhen to do cranioplastysurgery and related influencing factors.
He proposesearly cranioplasty surgeryas soon as intracranial pressure stabilized, which could facilitates the rehabilitation of brain function.
2.    Preliminary research on the evaluation of focal brain cerebrospinal fluid release testinhydrocephalus patients by using cerebral metabolic rate of glucose (18F-FDG PET / CT).
He believes that the normal pressure hydrocephalussecondary to brain injury is a special type of hydrocephalus, which is different from the usualhydrocephalusin treatment method due to its complex mechanism.
3.    Experimental study onneuromodulationmechanisms of selective posterior rhizotomy (SPR).
4.    Comparative study of treatmentefficacyon spasticity after brain injury with botulinum toxin injections and selective posteriorrhizotomy (SPR).
5.    Culture and identification of neural stem cells in umbilical cord.
