Research Interests:
Clinical Neurophysiology; Cognitive Neuroscience
1. Cognitive Brain Dynamic Model for Information Internalization
Human brain is one of the most complex systems in the universe.  In human brain, numerous neurons connect with each other, message is communicated between them.  I am interested in cortical brain mapping, using fMRI, magnetoencephalography (MEG), intracranial EEG recording and signal analyzing, transcranial magnetic stmulation, and electrical cortical stimulation to find out the functional representation of any cortex areas. In cooperating with engineers, new electroencephalographical signal and magnetoencephalographic field analyzing algorithms were developed for source localization to construct an integrated dynamic model to explain the basic cognition processes in human brain. Advanced cortical processing model for information internalization is proposed.

2. Non-invasive Brain Stimulation
Non-invasive procedures such as tDCS or rTMS are new techniques for brain stimulation. I am now testing the effects of these techniques in ameliorating symptoms of brain functional disorders. Therapeutic parameters and brain targets have been established for patients with epilepsy, insomnia, RLS, anxiety, ADHD, tics, and central pain. Now I am cooperating with engineers to establish an auto-system for detecting abnormal brain signals, localizing functional disturbance regions, guiding the manipulation of brain modulation procedures.

3. Mechanisms of Epileptic Brain Network Forming and Suppressing
Epilepsy is a brain disorder due to abnormal neuronal synchronization. I employed MEG, TMS-EEG, intracranial EEG with cortical stimulation to tailor the margin of cortical areas involved in a seizure. I am now developing new method to find out how patches of cortical areas are activated simultaneously. Cooperating with engineers, I am now developing a new device for responsive stimulating, which can block the abnormal brain activity propagation in the brain.  The implantation of such a device in specific region of the brain or in a part of body can be an effective therapeutic strategy for epilepsy.

4. Pathophysiological Investigation of Functional Brain Disorders
Functional brain disorders, including sleep disorders, movement disorders, emotional and cognitive disorders are common problems.  I have devoted a lot in studying the pathophysiology of brain of these disorders, investing the involved cortical areas and circuits, testing the unbalance of functional connection.
