Zhe Tang
Prof. Zhe Tang, M.D is presently Head of the General office of Beijing Geriatric Healthcare Center, and he is the Director of General Office of Division of Geriatrics of Capital Medical University. He is a supervisor of master in Geriatrics. Prof. Tang is also a chief physician in both Department of Geriatrics and Department of Cardiology in Xuan Wu Hospital of Capital Medical University.
Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Tang studied medicine at The Second Military Medical University (SMMU) in China, where he received his MD in 1977. Prof. Tang had further education training on Geriatric epidemiology in National Institute of Geriatric Medicine and Rehabilitation as a visiting scholar in Italy in 1995, and then had studied on Geriatric in Stockholm Aging Research Center in Karolinska Institute in 1997. From 1983, Prof. Tang began to work in Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Cardiology in Xuan Wu Hospital of Capital Medical University, and then he was nominated as Head of Department of Epidemiology and Social Medicine in Beijing Geriatric Research Center and the Head of the General office of Beijing Geriatric Healthcare Center.

Academic and Professional Experience
Prof. Tang has long been engaged in theoretical studies and clinical medical practice of cardiovascular diseases in the aged, specializing in the research of Geriatric Medicine, Epidemiology and Social Medicine. Prof. Tang has undertaken several important international projects such as United Nations Population Funds, the World Laboratories, the United Nations Development Programme and other scientific projects in China such as National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Health Industry Special Fund and so on. Prof. Tang originated large community geriatric research and prevention bases for 39 neighborhood committees and 28 villages in three representative districts (including urban, suburban and mountainous areas) in Beijing. He has led the team to follow more than 6,500 elderly cases (29800) for up to 20 years and have periodical physical examination for more than 13,800 elderly individuals. The large amount of valuable and reliable scientific research data regarding senile chronic diseases and health obtained from the above researches in Beijing provided important reference for government to develop polices for elderly population. In recent years, Prof. Tang was given the Second Award of the Scientific and Technological Progress of the State, Second Award of the Scientific and Technological Progress of Beijing for 4 times, Third Award of the Scientific and Technological Progress of Beijing for 3 times and First Award of Ten-Year Achievement of Gerontology of the State. Prof. Tang published more than 100 original research scientific papers and multiple chapters in books, being chief editor of the book The Ageing and Elderly Health Care. The majority of his publications are on the field of cardiovascular disease and gerontology.
